About Dan

Hi! My name is Dan Smith and I would love to have your support to serve on Katy City Council – Ward A.  I have been married to my beautiful wife, Kathy, since 2007 and we were blessed with our amazing son, Bennett, in 2012. We have lived in the Cane Island development of Katy since 2015, and love Katy! We attend Katy Community Fellowship Church.  While I am anything but your traditional politician, I am eager to use my unique background to serve Katy.

My professional experience is nearly 20 years with a Fortune 100 retail company, with over a decade as a multi-unit manager responsible for hundreds of employees and P&L’s in the tens of millions of dollars.  Retail is about customer service, and that is how I view the City Council position.  As residents we pay taxes to the City, and in return we should expect to receive professional service by people committed to constantly improving the customer (taxpayer) experience.

Working in a complex organization, I have learned that no one person can do it all.  Partnership is the key to any real change, and I will work with the other council members, mayor, and city staff on your behalf. I started my career in 2001 as a college freshman, and worked my way up from an entry level position.  While working full time, I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration as well as an MBA.  I have the business experience, financial acumen, education, and leadership experience to hit the ground running.

There are many issues facing our city that need attention and a voice.  I would be proud to represent you on City Council to unite our city of new and old residents, attract the right kinds of businesses that make Katy more family friendly, continue to improve public safety, ensure fiscal responsibility, and more.  Most importantly, I will remember that city government is about customer service, and you are the customer.

Thank you for this opportunity,

Dan Smith
